On the morning of 5th June,, the beautiful shores of Versova Beach observed the cleanup drive led by Rustomjee on account of World Environment Day.
The initiative aimed to clean up the littered sections of the beach while lighting a spark of change for the betterment of the planet. This offered Rustomjee an opportunity to give back to the environment as it aligns with the company’s vision of restoring lands and protecting ecosystems.
Why is Rustomjee Engaging in Beach Cleanup Drives?
World Environment Day 2024 aims to shed light on critical environmental issues under the theme of land restoration. This year’s theme, titled “Our land. Our future. We are #GenerationRestoration,” calls for urgent action to restore degraded lands. The beach cleanup drive, therefore, demonstrates the company’s pro-environmental stance. Meanwhile, the Versova Beach cleanup drive shows the company’s dedication to sustainability and social responsibility.
Events Details at the Versova Beach Cleanup Drive
On June 5th, in the Versova Beach clean-up exercise, Rustomjee employees collaborated with Mumbai Ploggers, a community engaged in environmental conservation and keeping the city clean.
It was a drive that took 45 minutes. The team managed to collect 35 kgs of waste. All manmade wastes including plastic bags, bottles, or pieces of litter were picked up, classified and discarded according to BMC regulations.
To encourage sustainable waste management practices on the beach, two dustbins were installed . At the end of the event, all volunteers were awarded CSR badges as a token of appreciation for their hard work and dedication.
Impact of the Versova Beach Cleanup Event
The Versova Beach cleanup drive had a major impact on both the environment and the local community around the area. The waste collected by the volunteers was sent to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, a goal that Rustomjee and Mumbai Ploggers are proud to achieve.
With 50 volunteers involved in the cleanup, the event showed the effect of combined action. It showed that when communities come together with a common goal, they can achieve better sustainable results.
